3rd Annual National Youth Hiring Day

100,000 Opportunities Initiative & Get Schooled are set to stage one of the nation’s largest virtual hiring fairs, connecting unemployed youth with OVER 150,000 OPEN JOBS.

National Youth Hiring Day is an innovative online job fair to support youth in preparing for and getting jobs. This social media campaign will help build awareness and drive attendance to National Youth Hiring Day. The free job fair will be held on May 7, 2020 from 2-7pm ET and will help connect opportunity youth aged 16-24 with entry-level jobs at top companies including Amazon, CVS Health, Dollar General, Fry’s Food Stores, Spectrum,Stop and Shop, Target, UPS and Walgreens, plus opportunities and support from City Year, MENTOR, Year Up, and more.

Offering virtual career support

Virtual career support, before and during the fair, will help set participants up for success in the short and long-term through help with resume writing, practice interviews, and building key professional skills.

Available from any connected device with no download or special software, the event will mimic the best features of an in-person job fair – enabling youth to learn more about the benefits and openings of each participating employer, engage with recruiters and service providers directly in real time, and apply for specific openings near them.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 4.5 million young people in the US ages 16-24 were out of school and unemployed. Now, with unemployment claims soaring as businesses have shut down amidst state and local efforts to control COVID-19, the growing recession is hitting these young people hard – keeping them from entering the workforce or connecting to services that better position them for getting and keeping a job.

Despite the economic turmoil, many companies do have job openings to fill immediately. For example, the healthcare, e-commerce, grocery, and delivery sectors must hire hundreds of thousands of employees to meet the current demand. Many of these jobs are entry-level or require limited previous experience. With social distancing policies in place, the virtual hiring fair will help participating employers safely connect to young people who are ready to work.
